In pétanque, panaché (meaning "mixed" in French) refers to a social tournament format where individual players register without a set partner. Players are randomly paired for each round, ensuring everyone gets to mix, mingle, and play with different partners throughout the competition.

Food Donations
The Sunriver Pétanque Club celebrated its 2026 Inaugural Indoor Mardi Gras Tournament on February 19, blending spirited competition with community outreach. We’ve traded steel for floor-friendly soft plastic boules—they maintain the traditional weight and feel but are gentle on the Dillon Room floors. The event featured exceptional play and camaraderie, but the real highlight was the collective effort to combat local hunger.
In lieu of a traditional entry fee, participants provided donations to The Giving Plate, which supports food-insecure residents in Deschutes County. Through the efforts of the club and the Bend Food Project, the tournament generated significant results: Club Contribution: 48 pounds of food, Sunriver Community Total: 497 pounds, Regional Impact: 20,270 total pounds received at the warehouse.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this successful event. These donations ensure that the spirit of Mardi Gras—celebration and generosity—reaches those in our community who need it most.

Don’t let the winter chill freeze your game! The Sunriver Pétanque Club is heading indoors, armed with clever equipment from OBUT that keeps the spirit of the sport alive all year round.
This indoor season is made possible thanks to the hard work of Margo and Gwen, who collaborated with the SHARC staff to bring our club inside for the winter. We’ve traded steel for floor-friendly soft plastic boules—they maintain the traditional weight and feel but are gentle on the Dillon Room floors.

A Fond Farewell to Gary and Christine
December 3, 2025
After nine wonderful years in Sunriver, Gary and Christine Bigham are beginning a new chapter as they prepare to move to Washington State. During their time here, they have made lasting contributions to our community through service, leadership, and a genuine commitment to bringing people together.
Gary has been deeply involved in Sunriver’s civic and recreational life. He served as a member of the Sunriver Owners Association (SROA) Board of Directors, helping guide decisions that support the long-term health of our community. Gary also served as a Board Member of the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory, where he contributed to the organization’s mission of environmental education and conservation.
One of Gary’s most enduring legacies is founding the Sunriver Pétanque Club. What began as an idea quickly grew into a thriving social and recreational group that welcomes players of all skill levels. The club has become a beloved part of Sunriver’s community fabric, offering camaraderie, friendly competition, and plenty of fun.
Christine has also been an active and valued member of the Sunriver community. Through her involvement with the Sunriver Women’s Club (SRWC), she supported numerous activities and initiatives that strengthen connections among residents. Her enthusiasm and willingness to contribute have made a meaningful difference.
In December 2025, members of the Sunriver Pétanque Club gathered for a special farewell event honoring Gary and Christine. The celebration reflected the appreciation and friendship they have built over the years, as club members shared stories, laughter, and heartfelt thanks.
While Gary and Christine will be missed, their impact will continue to be felt through the organizations and friendships they helped shape. We wish them every happiness as they settle into their new home in Washington and thank them sincerely for their years of service, leadership, and community spirit in Sunriver.
